Stay Hungry, Stay Creative

. November 11, 2016 .

Ever heard the saying “The cure for boredom is curiosity, but there is no cure for curiosity”? It’s a saying our everyday artist Shilpa Mitha lives by. After all, it was curiosity that led this erstwhile sound engineer to stray from an unfulfilling career and discover miniature art. Curiosity, and also the love of food. Today, Shilpa creates magic out of clay, crafting adorable food-inspired miniatures that look as good as the real deal.

“It all started with a pair of burger earrings. I fell in love with the medium. Plus, I had always loved food. So, I just combined both and with each piece, it felt like I was creating some sort of magic.”

Shilpa’s journey from an amateur miniaturist to a professional one has been equal parts challenging and exciting. She believes that creativity can be intense, and it’s easy to get trapped by your own thinking. But acknowledging creative blocks and understanding it’s just temporary has helped her keep at it.

“Every now and then, we face the dreaded creative block. It’s important not to give it too much importance. Whenever I face a block, I just give it some time to subside.”

A constant learner, Shilpa has progressed from food to human figurines to flowers, teaching herself something new every day. She’s also managed to make her passion her career, selling her creations under the brand name Sueño Souvenir.

“Once you’ve experienced the joy of creating, you never stop. So, any break is only for a short while, till you find inspiration again.”

Well, we hope Shilpa’s appetite for miniature art and creativity continues to grow the way it always has. Because we’re already hungry for more!
