From Dentistry to Artistry

. March 23, 2017 .

Meet Rajni Rao, proof positive that it is certainly possible to embrace your calling after a detour or two.

Growing up, Rajni was in love with all things art, and imagined she would eventually pick a creative career such as interior designing.

“I would describe myself as a person who loves art and poetry. I’ve always had a deep-rooted love for art. I remember that as a child, I used to wait for my exams to get over so that I could bury myself in home decor magazines.”

Destiny, however, had something else planned for her. Armed with a good track record in academics, Rajni secured a seat in a dental college on merit. She got her dental degree, and began practicing as a dentist too. But, she felt that there was something missing from her life.

“I was a dentist by profession, but an artist by passion. While my weekdays were consumed by my profession, my weekends were devoted to painting. Finally, six months back, I decided to take the plunge. I left dentistry for good and started a handcrafted home decor venture called Angel On My Table.”

She currently brings her work to the people through exhibitions and through her Facebook page,  Angel on my Table. The response she has got on these platforms has been phenomenal, and this drives her to keep going.

“I work from home, designing and executing each product myself, with no other help as of now. However, the expansion of the brand is in the pipeline.”

What does creating mean to her? She says:

“Creating a piece of art is like birthing a baby. You put your heart and soul into it.”

We ask her what excites her about her work. She reflects that creating a piece that is not just beautiful, but that has a story behind it, is what inspires her.

To those who are sitting on the fence, wondering if they should embrace their calling, she says:

"As cliche as it sounds - just follow your heart. Do something that motivates you, that gives you a reason to wake up everyday, something to look forward to! There is no age limit to pursue your passion. Just go for it!”

True that! Rajni, we wish you success in pursuing your dreams and hope you continue to inspire people to let their hearts lead the way!
